In a news conference held by Gov. Roy Cooper along with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kody Kinsley and two other healthcare professionals, they discussed the number of enrolled persons, which is said to be a major milestone for the program.
As per Cooper, the main aim was to reach an enrollment of 600,000 people under the Medicaid expansion program over the span of two years, as ABC News reported.
According to reports from the governor’s office, as of Friday, the strength of enrolled went up to 503,967.

During 2017 inauguration, Governor Roy Cooper declared that expansion of Medicaid was the main goal which received the support from both sides of the aisle.
Subsequently, The bipartisan support from state legislators last year and the subsequent launch on December 1st, which saw nearly 300,000 people sign up within the first few weeks, underscores the stability and long-term success of the program.
Moreover the 2010 Affordable Care Act provisioned for the federal government to pay ninety percent of the total cost.
Cooper added, “We never, ever, ever gave up. And that’s why we’re standing here today,” as ABC News reported.
Kinsley mentioned that for the new Medicaid enrollees, over 2 million prescriptions have already been filled, and most of them are dealing with chronic conditions like heart disease.
Kinsley said, “We’re not just getting people covered. We are getting people care.”
