United States: According to his office in a statement on Sunday, the former president has an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that has affected his bones.
Biden was diagnosed with “prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the official statement revealed.
More about the news
As the statement noted, while this is a “more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”
“The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” his office stated.
Last week, Biden’s office announced that a small change in the prostate, called a nodule, led to further evaluation, CBS News added.
“Cancer touches us all,” as Biden tweeted on Monday morning.

“Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support,” he added.
The Cleveland Clinic states that prostate cancer is the most common cancer after skin cancer in males.
Understanding Prostate Cancer in Older Men
Header The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that each group of 100 males can expect 13 men to develop prostate cancer.
“The older a man is, the greater the chance of getting prostate cancer,” the CDC noted.
Even though all men may be at risk, prostate cancer is more likely to occur in older men.
According to Dr. Tanya Dorff, an oncologist who treats prostate and other genitourinary cancers at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles,
“The good news is that prostate cancer actually has a lot of effective treatments, and so patients even who are diagnosed with more aggressive, more advanced stage disease, can live many years and have good quality of life,” CBS News added.
Some treatments are available, and experts report that significant progress has been made recently to assist men affected by this type of cancer.
Since Biden is 82 and left office at age 78, he is recognized as the oldest president ever, even though in January, President Trump, at age 78, had the honor of being the oldest person to become president.
